Exciting News!

Ms. Cheap Gives Us Inside Look At The Big Stitch: Mary Hance, aka Ms. Cheap, gave us an inside look at the Big Stitch which is organized by Knit and Crochet Tennessee. The Big Stitch is from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday at the Knowles Fifty Forward Center at 174 Rains Avenue, next to the Tennessee State Fairgrounds.

My good friend Michele texted me on Tuesday and asked if I wanted to be on TV....how could I pass that up????  The piece is about The Big Stitch, which is this coming Saturday, Jan 14th at FiftyForward Knowles. (174 Rains, Nashville--near the fairgrounds). It was a lot of fun to meet some of the local talent from Channel 5!


Today, Daniel and I decided to push forward in the kitchen and work on the fabric walls I keep talking to everyone about. Here's some photos!


I used the selvaged edge to estimate the bottom, I lined it up on top of the baseboard and nailed it to the wall (every few inches)...

I made sure to keep it tight and even the entire way across...

When I got to the corner, I put on nail as close to the corner as I could, left enough material to turn the corner, and then put another nail on the second wall as close to the corner as I could get it...I did this because nailing into the corner on the angle, was too hard. lol.....

The bottom is done here, and the top is roughly done, I spaced the nails at the top a little more than the bottom, I made sure to pull the fabric up and to the right to keep it flat to the wall...

 Once the top was secured, I trimmed the fabric off as close to the wall as I could...

 We used glue and a few nails to attach the chair rail...

I ended up being a little bit short, so I'll have to get more fabric and I'll have the joy of trying to match up the pattern...pictures to follow!

In other news, the sky fell today in nashville!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

....so i'm only a few days late on bringing my blog into the new year, but it's already been quite busy! our celebration of news years was downtown in nashville amongst 30,000 people. we were two blocks from where lynyrd skynyrd performed, saw some fights, a lot of silver sparkly dresses and had a lot of fun with daniel.

my dad visited from the day after christmas til the day before new years. it was great getting to see him. we took him to a predators game (our 2nd, dad's first). we actually have tickets for two more predators games coming up....but the next one isn't until feb and then march.

Instead of cookies I made cupcakes for Christmas this year!

our house is really starting to come together and feel like a home. i love having a dining area again. i like being able to sit at the table and have dinner. reminds me of when i was younger, especially since it's the same table i sat at growing up. we're almost done painting the bedroom, still need to pick up a bit more paint, we also have some trim work that needs finished up, but we'll do that like weekend warriors! yesterday i used the extra fabric from the pillows i made to update the tv cabinet, an ottoman and a picture frame.

This week I'm hoping to launch an online store for my creations. News to come of course! :) Not sure if I'm going to do Artfire or Etsy, still weighing my options of per item vs flat rate...it's hard when you're not sure if it's gonna take off, be kinda steady or just be plain slow....I think anything would be better than nothing, so I'm just going to go for it.

The Big Stitch is coming up a week from Saturday. I asked Deb if I could help out so I'm making some hats at home to donate. My goal is to make 20 and I've got 3 made so far....

progress!!

Well I finished the blanket for my Grandma today! Just in time for Christmas! :) It's one of the biggest things I've ever made and definately the most pink! LOL. Check it out!

Not bad for making up my own designs...I also kinda made up the way I connected it together...or at least I didn't do research on how to connect it first, I just figured it out. ha! I hope Grandma likes it!:) :)

I've also been working on these pillows. I think they're pretty much done now! I can't wait to get them in the living room at the house and see how they'll look!

I have a lot of things I want to learn to make in the coming year. I don't want to do like a traditional 'New Years Resolution', but since we will officially be in the new house at the start of the new year, it kind of all goes together.

I have this daydreamy vision of being like a modern 50's house wife haha. I want to have a garden and cook more and read books and crochet. I figure I can schedule that and trips to the library with laundry and keep pretty busy. I'm so so so excited about the new house and I can't wait until I can actually do a little entertaining there! :)

crochet lemonade stand?

...so i was sitting here thinking about the new little house i'm going to be moving into and the cute little neighborhood it's in....then i started thinking it would be a great location for a garage sale...but i don't really have much to put in a garage sale, but i could crochet some little things and put up a little table like we did when we sold lemonade as kids...hey! that sounds like fun, doesn't it?! So...what goes in a crochet lemonade stand?! Well, i figure a few dozen hats, some flowers, maybe a blanket or too, maybe just for show and i can take blanket orders...hmm....a shawl? some little toys? hot pads? place mats? drink cozies? then i started thinking if i really got a garden going, i mean like WOW garden! i could sell some veggies and herbs too...so that's where i'll be this summer, in the front yard! lol.

busy busy busy

Well, it's been a busy few days. We officially got a house to rent. We made a deal for the deposit and pet fee that if we took the place 'as is,' all we would have to pay for all of December is $250. SOLD! lol.  We've been painting and making small repairs. We have most of the kitchen moved over, just a few dishes and a bit of food left at the apartment. We can't move any of the big furniture until the weekend probably when we can get someone with a truck to help. As for crocheting, I mailed off a gift yesterday and I have a blanket I've been working on but I'm out of a pink and I haven't been out to get more of it, I'm kinda at a stand still with trying to pack and move, but also get projects done before Christmas.

I've also been working on making some pillows, but I got stuck...

Last night I went with Daniel to Christmas Dinner at the Lodge and got to watch the Installation Ceremony. It was cool. I met a few wives and a few of them even crochet! :)

Well, I've been stalling on getting started all morning, first it was too cold in here, now it's too hot in here and I just don't wanna clean...but I gotta...here's a few pics of the new house! :)

Yay hats!

well, i sold 5 hats yesterday....well, 3 got shipped and two were dropped off...and come to think of it, i don't have money for any of them yet, but that's besides the point...yay hats! i also got two additional orders! i still have 5 hats here that belong to people i'm working on getting them all dropped off/picked up, etc.

aside from the hat excitment we're getting ready to move. we could be moving as early as tomorrow technically....we still have to sign the paperwork, but the place is ours. it's not the one i posted the pictures of, but it's a 2 bedroom duplex with an eat-in kitchen and full basement! i'm excited about the basement, it literally doubles the size of the place. looking around here, our apartment is packed tight with stuff, but once we get it spread out...a house might look empty.

Two Tone Vest, House, Dinner! :)

So today I decided to try to crochet something hard!  I'm trying for a two-tone vest...you can find the pattern at: http://caron.com/projects/ss/ss_2tone_vest.html

This involves a lot of counting, which is not my forte....so I figured I mind as well practice. I think it's going pretty well so far, but we'll see how big it comes out...

This part took me about 2 hours I'd say...I was watching...oh dear I didn't anticipate revealing my stupid show of the day....oh well. I watched about 8 episodes of Gossip Girl...and I totally loved it--it's kinda like Secret Life of the American Teenager...my other guilty pleasure. LOL.

We also checked out a house today we're hoping to be renting very soon!! It's sooo cute! :) It's a duplex in a older little neighborhood.

I really like this house! Hardwood floors throughout, Closests!!!!, and I love the fireplace with the mantel...perfect for those stockings I crocheted for Christmas last year! :)

After checking out the house I drove over to the Mellow Mushroom to meet Daniel for dinner--he got held up at work and couldn't go look at the house with me.

We had double pepperoni pizza and the parmesean pretzels! :) Dan had his two beers for the week!
